NCDs and natural treatment by HERBENZYME (Updated on 22 August 2020)
Remarks:
All of the following symptoms of Non-communicable Diseases and Chronic Syndromes are the result of secondary causes such as metabolism issues that leads to tertiary causes like immunity issues, inflammation, lack of energy, and problems with the repairing mechanism, hormones, muscles, and nervous system within cells, tissues and organs. Primary causes are toxins from outside and inside the cell such as metabolism, waste, diet, stress, poor mental and emotional well-being, lack of quality sleep, medication, environment and lifestyle.
The HERBENZYME Mechanism:
Detoxification> Boost metabolism; boost energy system, immune system (even killing virus), anti-inflammatory effects, repairing of systems and hormone system > Balancing of systems with some additional adjustments pertaining to diet and nutrition such as taking vitamin supplements, probiotics, and prebiotics and/or changing your dietary nutrient ratio, strict recommendations to avoid all harmful drugs, alcohol, cigarettes and stress, recommendations to get more oxygen, more deep and long sleep, increasing all blood and lymph circulation with exercise, and getting natural Vitamin D via exposure to morning-evening sunlight
Foods to avoid: Sugar and high-sugar food, fried foods, trans-fat, too much salt, dairy and red meat
Dosage: Depends on your weight and the severity of your symptom(s)/condition(s)
Effectiveness: We have observed faster improvements in health and higher level of product effectiveness in younger patients. For maximum effectiveness, consider adjusting your diet, lifestyle, reducing stressful activity and thinking, environment and increase physical activity.
Patients with hypoglycemia, very low blood pressure, and those in extreme critical conditions should not use HERBENZYME products without consulting a healthcare practitioner.

Symptoms | Problems with temperature regulation (heat sensitivity or hypothermia), other Non-Communicable Diseases, slight decrease in height as the bones of the spine get thinner and lose some height, bones break more easily, joint changes ranging from minor stiffness to severe arthritis, slowed and limited movement, decrease in overall energy due to mitochondrial deficiency, constipation, urinary incontinence, impaired concentration, memory, and thinking, reduced reflexes and coordination, difficulty with balance, reduced visual acuity, diminished peripheral vision, hearing loss, wrinkling and sagging skin, whitening/graying of hair, weight loss in part due to loss of muscle tissue.
Effects of aging on cells, organs and tissues: Cells become less able to divide. The telomeres (the ends of the chromosomes inside every cell) gradually get shorter with each cell replication until finally they get so short that the cell dies. Metabolic waste products accumulate. Connective tissue between the cells becomes stiffer. The maximum functional capacity of many organs decreases. Effects of aging on the heart and blood vessels: The wall of the heart gets thicker. The heart muscle becomes less efficient, working harder to pump the same amount of blood. The aorta (the body’s main artery) becomes thicker, stiffer, and less flexible. Many of the body’s arteries, including arterial supply to the heart and brain, slowly develop atherosclerosis which can lead to cardiovascular disease. Vital signs: It is harder for the body to regulate internal temperature. Heart rate takes longer to return to normal after exercise. Bones, muscles, joints: Bones become thinner and less strong. Joints become stiffer and less flexible. The cartilage and bone in joints loses star ts to weaken. Muscle tissue becomes less bulky and less strong. Digestive system: The movement of food through the digestive system becomes slower. The stomach, liver, pancreas, and small intestine make smaller amounts of digestive juices and enzymes. Brain and nervous system: The number of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord decreases. The number of connections between nerve cells decreases. Abnormal structures, known as plaques and tangles, may form in the brain.Eyes and ears: The retinas get thinner, the irises get stiffer and less responsive to light. The lenses become less clear, with tendency to cataract formation. The walls of the ear canal get thinner. Skin, hair and nails: The skin gets thinner and becomes less elastic. Sweat glands produce less perspiration. The nails grow more slowly. Hair loses its pigmentation and grows more slowly. Men and women experience hair loss. |
Causes | Include but are not limited to: Oxidative stress, glycation (cause of wrinkles), telomere shortening, genetic mutations, aggregation of proteins, excess free radicals, toxic effects of stress, poor sleep, cigarettes, alcohol, recreational drugs, and environmental pollutants.
Free radicals are also produced from poor digestion and metabolism of protein, fats, and carbohydrates. |
Conventional Treatment | Most “anti-aging” treatments focus on cosmetic effects, to improve the condition and appearance of the skin. This just treats symptoms of aging and does not address the causes. |

|
Symptoms | Itching, skin inflammation and rashes, coughing, sneezing, sinus, congestion. |
Causes | Metabolic disorder resulting in dysregulation of the immune system with excessive inflammation. Causes include toxicity from foods consumed and the environment, buildup of free radicals in tissues, stress, insufficient sleep, inflammation in the digestive system, and disruption of the microbiome in the intestines. |
Conventional Treatment | Main medication used for symptom relief include antihistamines, NSAIDS (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs), and steroid medications. All of these drugs run the risk of severe side effects with long-term use. If allergic foods can be identified with blood testing, then they can be avoided as a way to reduce allergic reactions. |

|
Symptoms | Muscle weakness, cramps, twitching uncontrollable laughing or crying, abnormal fatigue in arms and legs, slurred speech. |
Causes |
Metabolic disorder which can be genetic. Other causes include free radicals, stress, toxins including chemicals and drugs, pesticides, radiation, steroid use, chemotherapy, etc. Possibly also statin drugs due to inhibition of important enzymes that metabolize fats and oils. This can result in damage to muscle tissues, brain and central nervous system, and autonomic nervous system. Additionally, hormone production can be adversely affected. |
Conventional Treatment | Main medication used for symptom relief is Rilutek (Riluzole). Side effects include dizziness, GI problems, impaired liver function. |

|
Symptoms |
Coughing, chest tightness, wheezing, difficult respiration. Swelling reduces the amount of air that can pass through the airways and leads to a high-pitched, wheezing sound. Asthma attacks can become life-threatening if the airflow in the lungs becomes severely blocked. Triggers may include: Pet dander, dust mites, cockroach allergens, molds or pollens, respiratory infections, exercise, cold air, stress, food sulfites, tobacco smoke, and other air pollutants. |
Causes |
Chronic inflammatory responses. Allergies develop when the body becomes sensitized to a specific substance. Not every person with asthma has an allergy, but there is often a link. In people with allergic conditions, exposure to specific allergens can trigger symptoms. Cigarette smoking can trigger asthma conditions. Asthma, even without smoking, can cause damage to the lungs. This can increase the risk of developing various tobacco-related lung conditions, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and it can make symptoms more severe. Environmental factors such as air pollution, both inside the home and outside of it, can affect the development and triggering of asthma. Some common environmental causes include: Mold, dust, animal hair/dander, fumes from household cleaners and paints, cockroaches, feathers, and pollens. Stress can give rise to asthma symptoms, as can emotions like laughter, crying, joy, excitement, anger etc. Any emotional reaction can potentially trigger asthma symptoms. Ultimately, all these causes are related to the function of the immune system. |
Conventional Treatment |
Asthma is treated and controlled primarily with two types of medications:
Quick-relief inhalers don’t reduce lung swelling and should not be used in place of long-term, inhaled corticosteroid treatment. A long-acting Beta-2-agonist and corticosteroid combination, such as Advair, Fluticasone, and Salmeterol, may be needed in more severe asthma. Other treatments include leukotriene modifiers, such as Montelukast, Zafirlukast, and Zileuton. These drugs block chemicals that cause inflammation and airway narrowing in asthma. Montelukast is also approved for allergy treatment (allergic rhinitis) and exercise-induced asthma. |

Symptoms | Atherosclerosis, plaque build-up in blood vessels primarily in coronary arteries and cerebral arteries. Heart attacks, strokes, Parkinson’s Disease. |
Causes | Impaired blood flow resulting from build-up of plaque and clotting in the lining of blood vessels. It is a metabolic disorder involving chronic inflammation in the inner lining (Tunica Intima) of blood vessels, Glycation. The main causes of the inflammation are high levels of oxidized cholesterol, LDL, and Triglycerides, which are themselves a result primarily of toxic reactions from diet, buildup of free radicals, cigarettes, excess alcohol, chemical and heavy-metal toxins from the environment, chronic stress, and nutritional deficiencies of key nutrients like Vitamin C, K2, Selenium, Magnesium, and essential fatty acids. |
Conventional Treatment |
Main medications used for Cerebral vascular disease are Dantrolene baclofen, Tizanidine, and other anti-hypertension drugs. Main medications used for Coronary artery disease include cholesterol-lowering medications (mostly statins), aspirin , beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, Ranolazine, Nitroglycerine, Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors and angiostensin II receptor blockers. Coronary bypass surgery may be recommended in severe cases. Main medications used for stroke include tissue plasminogen activator (an emergency medication provided during a stroke to break up a blood clot which is causing the stroke), anticoagulants such as Coumarin (the drug reduces your blood’s ability to clot), anti-platelet drugs, anti-hypertensive drugs to lower blood pressure. Physicians may also recommend post-stroke therapies like physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy to help regain normal functions. |

Symptoms |
There are many diseases in this category, such as Type 1 Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, Scleroderma, and Lupus. Any organ system in the body can be affected. The general symptoms are: Fatigue, muscle pain, general inflammation, swelling, redness and eruptions on the skin, low grade fever, trouble with mental focus and concentration, numbness and tingling in hands and feet, hair loss, and gastrointestinal inflammation. |
Causes | In Autoimmune diseases, the immune system mistakes body tissues like the skin and joints as foreign. This involves imbalances in the Th1, Th2, and Th17 immune responses. The immune system releases proteins called autoantibodies that attack normal cells. The common causes of Autoimmune diseases are hormonal imbalances, infections, exposure to environmental toxins like toxic chemicals and heavy metals, reactions to pharmaceutical drugs, excess radiation and EMF exposure, chronic stress and disturbed sleep. |
Conventional treatment |
In general, the common therapies are anti-inflammatory drugs like steroids and NSAIDS as well as drugs that suppress the immune system. Medical specialists focus on treating whichever systems in the body are manifesting the autoimmune disorders. For example, Rheumatologists treat joint diseases like Rheumatoid arthritis and SLE. Dermatologists treat skin conditions like Psoriasis and Eczema. Gastroenterologists treat diseases of the GI tract. Endocrinologists treat conditions of the glands, such as Thyroiditis and Addison’s disease. |

Symptoms | Insufficient breast milk or no milk to feed the new born baby. This is becoming more of a common problem for new mothers. |
Causes |
The main cause of lactation difficulties is from the hormone and metabolic disorders of the mother due to lifestyle and other various factors such as waiting too long to start breast feeding, not breast feeding often enough, supplementing breastfeeding, an ineffective latch from the baby, use of certain medications, previous breast surgery. The level of prolactin (the hormone that signals the breasts to make milk) is also higher during night feedings, so the lowered overall prolacdtin can also contribute to a drop in milk. It is hard to resist the lure of more sleep, but for many mothers, those nightly feedings are essential to avoid low milk supply. |
Conventional treatment |
Power pumps, making “lactation cookies”, drinking “Premama” lactation support mix, breast massage. Eating, drinking, and resting more during nursing or pumping. |

Symptoms | The symptoms are dependent on the type of cancer and metastasis. Common symptoms include bowel or bladder habits changes, sores that cannot heal, abnormal bleeding or discharge, thickening or lump inside an organ, indigestion or difficulty swallowing, changes in the size, shape, or color of warts/moles, and long periods of coughing. |
Causes |
Harmful lifestyle habits such as smoking, radiation exposure, viruses, carcinogenic chemicals, carcinogens in food, obesity, and hormone imbalances. These conditions create free radicals and toxins that promote inflammation in the cells and can cause mutations in the DNA inside the cell nucleus. They also can cause the cell to go from normal aerobic (oxidative) metabolism to anaerobic metabolism, which is typical of cancer cells. Inadequate production of natural anti-oxidants in the cells, such as Glutathione, may also pre-dispose to cancer. |
Conventional treatment | Chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery, and other alternative treatments. |

|
Symptoms | May include fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, bowel constipation or diarrhea, hair loss, mouth sores, skin and nail problems. Also impaired memory and/or concentration, nerve and muscle symptoms, hearing changes, increased risk of infections, impaired immunity. |
Causes | Chemotherapy and radiation treatments have very strong effects that can damage and inflame both cancer tissue and normal tissue. It can damage the intestinal tract, disrupt the microbiome of the gut, and damage the immune system of the gut. When the health of the gut/GI system is damaged, it can affect all tissues and organs in the body. Chemotherapy agents themselves are strong carcinogens that can cause further cancer cell growth, leaving the immune system to damaged to respond. |

Symptoms | Passing less than 1 stool daily, having lumpy or hard stools, straining to have bowel movements, feeling as though there is a blockage in your rectum that prevents bowel movements, feeling as though you can’t completely empty the stool from your rectum. |
Causes | Some causes of constipation include blockages in the colon or rectum may slow or stop stool movement (the main condition to rule out is cancer of the colon or rectum), problems with the nerves around the colon and rectum, neurologic problems that affect the nerves which cause peristalsis (movement) of the smooth muscles of the intestines, difficulty with the muscles involved in elimination, problems with the pelvic muscles involved with moving the bowels may cause chronic constipation, and conditions that affect the hormones, which are involved in helping to maintain fluid balance in the tissues.Diseases and conditions that can upset the balance of hormones and lead to constipation include diabetes, overactive Parathyroid gland, pregnancy, and underactive Thyroid gland.
Other risk factors that can increase your risk of chronic constipation include old age, being female, dehydration, a fiber-deficient diet, little or no physical activity, taking certain medications, having depression, having an eating disorder, and imbalance in the gut microbiome, especially overgrowth of candida. |
Conventional treatment |
Diet and lifestyle changes such as increasing fiber intake, training your pelvic muscles and exercising most days of the week. Stimulants such as Bisacodyl cause the intestines to contract. Osmotics or osmotic laxatives help the stool to move through the colon by increasing secretion of fluid from the intestines and helping to stimulate bowel movements. Examples include oral magnesium hydroxide, magnesium citrate, lactulose. Lubricants such as mineral oil enable the stool to move through the colon more easily. Stool softeners such as docusate sodium moisten the stool by drawing water into your intestines and speeding up the movement of the stool. Serotonin 5-hydroxytryptamine 4 receptors such as Prucalopride, help move stools through the colon. In the case of severe blockages, strictures, adhesions or rectocele, surgery is an option. |

Causes |
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition that causes destruction of the cells in the pancreas that produce insulin. It may have genetic components, but has also been linked to infections, and allergic reactions to cows milk. Type 2 diabetes is a metabolic and lifestyle disorder. The cells are unable to respond adequately to insulin, and unable to metabolize glucose completely. The pancreas may produce less insulin in response to blood glucose levels, and the cells may become less responsive to insulin (insulin resistance). Risk factors for Type 2 Diabetes include diet and lifestyles that produce excess toxins and free radicals, inflammation, high blood pressure, high blood triglycerides, excess carbohydrates in diet, excess alcohol intake, obesity, aging, etc. |
Conventional treatment | Symptomatic treatment by giving insulin and oral medications like Metformin, Troglitazone, Acarbose, Sulfonylurea, Repaglinide, Sitagliptin, etc. The medicines come with side effects and do not treat at the disease at the cause. Dietary advice and exercise is also encouraged. |

Symptoms |
Enlargement of the prostate gland can cause symptoms such as: Dribbling urine Pain or burning during urination. Frequent urination Blood in the semen or urine. Frequent pain or stiffness in the lower back, hips, pelvic or rectal area, or the upper thighs. Urinary incontinence (the inability to hold the urine). Urgent need to urinate. Increased frequency of urination at night (nocturia). Difficulty starting urination. Weak urine stream or a stream that stops and starts. Dribbling at the end of urination. Inability to completely empty the bladder. |
Causes |
The main cause is from hormone imbalances that cause changes in the size and structure of the prostate. Other causes include: Urinary tract infections. Inflammation of the prostate (Prostatitis). Narrowing of the urethra. Scarring in the bladder neck as a result of previous surgery. Bladder or kidney stones. Problems with nerves that control the bladder. Cancer of the prostate or bladder. |
Conventional treatment | There are several treatment options for an enlarged prostate. The patient can use alpha-blockers such as Terazosin or Tamsulosin to help relax the prostate and bladder muscles. Other medicines include Dutasteride or Finasteride, which work in a different way to reduce symptoms. |

Symptoms |
Pain, swelling, redness, tenderness in the joints, especially the big toe. Gout attacks can come on quickly and keep returning over time, slowly causing tissue damage from the inflammation, and can be extremely painful. Hypertension, Cardiovascular disease, and Obesity are risk factors for gout. Gout may also be accompanied by kidney stones. It is the most common form of inflammatory arthritis in men, and although it is more likely to affect men, women do become more susceptible to gout after menopause. |
Causes |
It is the result of metabolic disorders that result in an excess of uric acid in the blood (hyperuricemia). It is insoluble and accumulates as urate crystals in the joints. Uric acid is produced in the body during the breakdown of purines (amino acids found in meat, poultry and seafood. When the metabolism of purines is affected, uric acid is created in excess. There appears to be a genetic component to being susceptible to Gout, but it is also triggered by lifestyle factors including diet, alcohol/drugs, excess toxins from metabolic and environmental sources. |
Conventional treatment |
Drugs to relieve gout pain/inflammation include: Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDS), such as aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, colchicine. Corticosteroids Drugs that prevent gout attacks include: Xanthine Oxidase inhibitors like Allopurinol, Probenecid. Along with medications, your doctor may recommend lifestyle changes to help manage your symptoms and reduce your risk of future gout attacks. This may include reducing alcohol intake, reducing weight, quit smoking, reduce high-purine foods like red meat, shellfish, poultry. Medicines and lifestyle changes aren’t the only way to manage gout. A few alternative therapies have also shown promise, such as fasting. |

Symptoms | High cholesterol itself is not a disease,
unless it has been oxidized and deposited in the linings of blood vessels. But high blood cholesterol, and especially high levels of Low Density Lipoproteins, are indicators of increased risk for stroke, coronary artery disease, cerebral vascular disease, Alzheimer’s, parkinsons, obesity, and other disorders of the hormonal and nervous systems. |
Causes | The main causes are from metabolic disorders that result in the cells not being able to effectively metabolize and utilize fats and oils from the diet. In addition, a major cause of elevated cholesterol production by the liver is due to inflammation in body tissues. These conditions are consequences of poor diet, taking saturated fat in animal products, trans fats from processed foods, refined starches like baked cookies, cakes, pastries etc., and excess sugar and carbohydrates in general. Other factors include lack of exercise, smoking, age, obesity, diabetes, and lack of protective nutrients like anti-oxidants (Vitamin C, E, selenium etc.) |
Conventional treatment |
The usual approaches are to block cholesterol production by using medications such as statins, which block an enzyme that the liver needs in order to make cholesterol. Other classes of medications include: Bile-acid-binding resins. Your liver uses cholesterol to make bile acids, which are needed for fat digestion. Cholesterol-absorption inhibitors. Injectable medications. All of these treatments may create other side effects and symptoms like ALS, Thyroid disorders, Liver problems, Hormone imbalance, Nervous system disorders, and also CoQ10 deficiency which leads to mitochondrial dysfunction in the cells and decreased energy production. |

Symptoms |
For young women: Abdominal bloating and discomfort/pain Sore breasts Acne Food cravings, especially for sweets Constipation Diahrrea Headaches Mood swings Women who have PMS problems during their reproductive years often have menopausal symptoms later. |
Causes |
Levels of estrogen and progesterone increase during certain times of the month. Estrogen, which is a steroid hormone produced in the ovaries, is produced in higher amounts during the first half of the menstrual cycle in preparation for ovulation. Then progesterone is produced in the second half of the cycle. PMS symptoms usually start 5-11 days before menstruation, and are often associated with progesterone deficiency. Serotonin levels are also often associated with PMS, and involves deficiency of serotonin production. |

Symptoms |
High Blood Pressure: Severe headache Fatigue or confusion Vision problems Chest pain Difficulty breathing Irregular heartbeat Blood in the urine Pounding in chest, neck, or ears Low Blood Pressure:
|
Causes |
High blood pressure:
Low Blood Pressure: Conditions that reduce the volume of blood or that reduce cardiac output can result in low blood pressure. Also reactions to medications can cause it. Dehydration, bleeding, and inflammation: Dehydration is common among patients with prolonged nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or excessive exercise, which shunts blood away from the organs to the muscles. Large amounts of water are lost when vomiting and with diarrhea, especially if the person does not drink adequate amounts of fluid to replace the depleted water. Other causes of dehydratioin include exercise, excess perspiration, fever, and heat exhaustion. Individuals with mild dehydration may experience only thirst and dry mouth. Moderate to severe dehydration may cause orthostatic hypotension (manifested by lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting upon standing). Prolonged and severe dehydration can lead to shock, kidney failure, confusion, acidosis (acidic blood pH), coma, and even death. Moderate or severe bleeding can quickly deplete the body of blood, leading to low blood pressure or orthostatic hypotension. Bleeding can result from trauma, surgical complications, or from gastrointestinal abnormalities such as ulcers, tumors, or diverticulosis. Occasionally, the bleeding may be so severe and rapid (for example, bleeding from a ruptured aortic aneurysm) that it causes shock and rapid death. Severe inflammation of organs inside the body such as acute pancreatitis can cause low blood pressure. In acute pancreatitis, fluid leaves the blood vessels to enter the inflamed tissues around the pancreas as well as the abdominal cavity, concentrating blood and reducing its volume. Excess alcohol consumption and narcotic drugs can also cause low blood pressure. |
Conventional treatment |
High blood pressure: Treatment plans for hypertension often evolve. What worked at first may become less effective over time. Your doctor will continue to work with you to refine your treatment. Many people go through a trial-and-error phase with blood pressure medications. You may need to try different medicines until you find one or a combination of medications that work for you. Some of the medications used to treat hypertension include: Beta-blockers Diuretics ACE inhibitors: Angiotensin II receptor blockers or Calcium channel blockers Low Blood pressure: Medications such as calcium channel blockers, beta blockers, and digoxin may be used. Also Fludrocortisone, Midodrine. |

Symptoms | Common symptoms/results of chronic increase in free radicals and toxins include: Inflammation, Aging, Fatigue, Irritable/mood swings, Constipation, Brain fog, unusual body odor, unusual smell or taste in the mouth, Sensitivity to chemicals and odors, Physical aches and pains etc. |
Causes |
Metabolic disorders due to intake/exposure to toxic foods and drinks, fried foods, alcohol, cigarettes, pesticides, air pollutants, stress, digestive problems and dysbiosis of the microbiome. Free radicals, endotoxins (internal produced), and exotoxins (external produced) include aldehyde, alcohol, ammonia, scavenging proteins, oxidized lipids, dead cells. These toxins and free radicals are the main causes of inflammation in the cells and result in many kinds of NCD’s and metabolic disorders. |
Conventional treatment |
There is no treatment from conventional medical approaches because medicine focuses on sickness. Free radicals and toxins are the causes of sickness, but medicine treats the symptoms usually, while neglecting the causes. |

Causes |
Causes from Male: Abnormal sperm production or function due to undescended testicles, genetic defects, health problems such as diabetes, or infections such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, mumps or HIV. Enlarged veins in the testes (varicocele) also can affect the quality of sperm. Problems with the delivery of sperm due to sexual problems, such as premature ejaculation. Certain genetic diseases, such as cystic fibrosis. Structural problems, such as a blockage in the testicle. Or damage/ injury to the reproductive organs. Over exposure to certain environmental factors, such as pesticides and other chemicals, and radiation. Cigarette smoking, alcohol, marijuana, anabolic steroids, and taking medications to treat bacterial infections, high blood pressure, and depression also can affect fertility. Frequent exposure to heat, such as in saunas or hot tubs, can raise body temperature and may affect sperm production. Damage related to cancer and its treatment, including radiation or chemotherapy. Treatment for cancer can impair sperm production, sometimes severely. Causes of female infertility: Ovulation disorders, which affect the release of eggs from the ovaries. These include hormonal disorders such as polycystic ovary syndrome. Hyperprolactinemia, a condition in which there is too much prolactin, the hormone that stimulates breast milk production, also may interfere with ovulation. Either too much thyroid hormone (hyperthyroidism) or too little (hypothyroidism) can affect the menstrual cycle or cause infertility. Other underlying causes may include too much exercise, eating disorders or tumors. Uterine or cervical problems, including abnormalities with the cervix, polyps in the uterus, or the shape of the uterus. Noncancerous (benign) tumors in the uterine wall (uterine fibroids) may cause infertility by blocking the fallopian tubes or stopping a fertilized egg from implanting in the uterine wall. Fallopian tube damage or blockage, often caused by inflammation of the fallopian tube (salpingitis). This can result from pelvic inflammatory disease, which is usually caused by a sexually transmitted infection, endometriosis, or adhesions. Endometriosis, which occurs when endometrial tissue grows outside of the uterus, may affect the function of the ovaries, uterus and fallopian tubes. Primary ovarian insufficiency (early menopause), when the ovaries stop working and menstruation ends before age 40. Although the cause is often unknown, certain factors are associated with early menopause, including immune system diseases, certain genetic conditions such as Turner syndrome or carriers of Fragile X syndrome, and radiation or chemotherapy treatment. Pelvic adhesions, bands of scar tissue that bind organs and that can form after pelvid infections, appendicitis, endometriosis, or abdominal or pelvic surgeries. Cancer and its treatment. Certain cancers, particularly reproductive cancers, often impair female fertility. Both radiation and chemotherapy may affect fertility. |
Conventional treatment |
Intrauterine insemination, in which healthy sperm is collected and inserted directly into the uterus during ovulation. In vitro fertilization, in which eggs are taken from your ovaries and fertilized by sperm in a lab, where they develop into embryos and are then implanted in the uterus. |

Symptoms |
Red, raised, inflamed patches of skin. Whitish-silver scales or plaques on the red patches. Dry skin that may crack and bleed. Soreness around patches. Itching, burning and other sensations around the patches. Thick, pitted nails. Painful, swollen joints (psoriatic arthritis). |
Causes |
It is a disorder of the immune system. Psoriasis is an autoimmune condition, so the immune system is attacking your own body tissues. In the case of psoriasis, white blood cells known as T-cells mistakenly attack the skin cells. In a typical body, white blood cells are deployed to attack and destroy invading bacteria and fight infections. This mistaken attack of the skin cells by the WBC’s causes the skin cell reproduction process to go into overdrive. The sped-up skin cell production causes new skin cells to develop too quickly. They are pushed to the skin’s surface, where they pile up. This results in the plaques that are most commonly associated with psoriasis. The attacks on the skin cells also cause red, inflamed areas of skin. Genetics: some people inherit genes that make them more likely to develop psoriasis. If you have an immediate family member with the skin condition, your risk for developing psoriasis is higher. However, the percentage of people who have psoriasis and a genetic predisposition is small. |
Conventional treatment | Mostly used are corticosteroids. These drugs are the most frequently prescribed medications for treating mild to moderate psoriasis. Other medications used include Vitamin D analogues, Anthralin, Topical retinoids, Calcineurin inhibitors, Salicylic acid, Coal tar, and Moisturizers. |

Symptoms |
Hardened or thickened skin that looks shiny and smooth. Cold fingers or toes that turn red, white, or blue. Ulers of sores on fingertips. Red spots on face, chest. Puffy, swollen, or painful fingers and/or toes. Painful or swollen joints. Muscle weakness. |
Causes |
In general, it is considered as an autoimmune condition, which results from metabolic disorders and environmental toxins. There is probably a genetic predisposition. It is not known what causes scleroderma, but it is thought to be an autoimmune condition that causes the body to produce too much connective tissue. This leads to a thickening, or fibrosis, and scarring of tissue. Connective tissue forms the fibers that make up the framework that supports the body. They are found under the skin and around the internal organs and blood vessels, and they help support muscles and bones. People with scleroderma often come from families in which another autoimmune disease exists. |
Conventional treatment |
There is currently no cure for scleroderma, and no medication can stop the over production of collagen. However, organ system complications can be treated to minimize damage and maintain functionality. Localized scleroderma may resolve on its own. Some medications may help control the symptoms and help prevent complications. The aim will be to relieve the symptoms, to prevent the condition from worsening, or at least slow it down, to detect and treat complications as soon as possible, and to minimize disabilities. Treatment depends on how the disease affects the individual. Blood pressure medication may help dilate the blood vessels. This can reduce problems with the organs, such as the lungs and kidneys, and they can help to treat Raynaud’s disease. Immunosuppressants may calm, or suppress, the immune system. Physical therapy may help manage pain, improve mobility, and improve strength. Aids, such as splints, may help with daily tasks. Ultraviolet light therapy and laser surgery may help improve the condition and the appearance of the skin. |

Symptoms |
Sinus pressure behind the eyes and the cheeks. A runny, stuffy nose that lasts more than a week. A worsening headache. Fever Cough Bad breath Thick yellow/green mucus Fatigue |
Causes |
Lowered immunity and infection. Sinus infections or sinusitis may be caused by anything that interferes with airflow into the sinuses and the drainage of mucus out of the sinuses. The sinus openings may be blocked by swelling of the tissue lining and adjacent nasal passage tissue, for example with common colds, allergies, and tissue irritants such as OTC nasal sprays, cocaine, and cigarette smoke. Other causes of sinus infections and sinusitis: Tumors or growths also can block the sinuses if they are near the sinus openings. Dehydration, disease, drying medications, and lack of sufficient humidity can cause sinusitis or sinus infection. The drainage of mucus from the sinuses also can be impaired. |
Conventional Treatment |
Antibiotics are standard treatments for bacterial sinus infections. Nasal decongestant sprays. Topical nasal decongestants can be helpful if used for no more than three to four days. Antihistamines Topical nasal corticosteroids. Nasal saline washes. Surgery |

There is no cure for lupus at present, but the condition is most often very treatable and usually responds well to a number of different types of drugs, especially when treatment is started in the early stages of the disease. Two newer drugs, Rituximab and Belimumab, are now being used for treatment of severe lupus. These are biological therapies which act against B-cells, which are the blood cells that produce antibodies. In the case of SLE, the B cells produce harmful autoantibodies that trigger the inflammation. There is ongoing research on types of patients that respond best to these drugs. Other, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs used in the treatment of SLE include Naproxen and Ibuprofen which reduce inflammation and help with symptoms in the joints. These medications are often used for short periods to manage symptoms. Steroid creams such are useful for skin rashes. Steroid tablets such as Prednisolone may be used for short periods for complications such as pleurisy or pericarditis. It may also be used as a longer-term treatment for other problems, such as kidney inflammation or severe blood problems. Steroid injections work as an immediate treatment to help control a flare-up. They can also be injected into the scalp if hair loss is a problem (although often the hair grows back by itself when the disease is brought under control). When taking steroid tablets you must carry a steroid alert card. The dose might also need to be increased because the treatment often prevents your body from being able to produce enough natural steroids in response to stress. Your doctor, rheumatology nurse specialist or pharmacist can provide a steroid card. |

Symptoms |
Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid): Fatigue, weakness, intolerance to cold, muscle aches and cramps, constipation, weight gain or difficulty losing weight, poor appetite, goiter (enlarged thyroid gland), dry and rough skin, coarse hair or hair loss, eye and face swelling, deeper and/or hoarse voice, enlarged tongue, irregular or heavy menstrual periods, depression, memory loss, slowed thinking and mental activity, and increased blood cholesterol levels. Hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid): Nervousness, tremor, irritability, poor concentration, reduced menstrual blood flow in women, racing heartbeat or palpitations, heat intolerance, changes in bowel habits such as more frequent bowel movements, enlargement of the thyroid gland, skin thinning, brittle hair, increase in appetite, feeling hungry, and increased perspiration. |
Causes |
Thyroid problems are caused by metabolic and hormone imbalances. Specific causes of hypothyroidism include radiation therapy to the neck area, radioactive iodine treatment, use of certain medication, surgery to remove the thyroid, iodine deficiency, pregnancy, birth defects, pituitary gland damage or disorder, and disorders of the Hypothalamus. Specific causes of hyperthyroidism include disorders of the immune system such as Grave’s disease, overactive follicles in thyroid, and an infection or an immune system problem. |
Conventional Treatment |
Hypothyroidism cannot be cured, but can be managed by taking synthetic thyroxine to replenish hormone levels or taking iodine. In most cases, medications for hypothyroidism will need to be taken for the rest of the patient’s life. Symptoms of hyperthyroidism can be treated with the use of antithyroid drugs that stop the thyroid gland from producing too much thyroxine or triiodothyronine. Such drugs include methimazole, lithium or propylthiouracil. Adverse effects of medications include allergic reactions, reduction in white blood cells which increase the chance of infections, and in rare cases, liver failure. Radioactive iodine is picked up by the active cells in the thyroid, and it destroys them. The destruction is local, and there are no widespread side effects. The dose of radioactivity contained in the radioiodine is very low and is not harmful. Radioiodine treatment is not suitable for women who are pregnant. Surgery can remove part of the thyroid gland if other treatments are not possible, such as during pregnancy, or intolerance of other therapies, or with cancer. Patients may find it useful to avoid food and other products that are high in iodine, such as seaweed and some cough medicines and multivitamins. |
